TWELVE people including a driver have died on the spot while eight others have sustained serious injuries after the bus they were in collided with a truck.
The accident happened today around 12:50 hours along Mutanda -Solwezi Road about 31 Kilometres West of Solwezi Boma at Katoka area in North Western Province.
Police Deputy Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the accident happened when the driver of the Toyota Hiace Minibus registration number ACT 1199 lost control due to excessive speeding and went in the lane of the on coming Volvo Truck registration number ACL 1315 and collided head on.
“After the collision the bus fell on the side killing five females, six males and one juvenile,” he said.
Mr Hamoonga said three of the deceased have been identified as Mervis Mwambi ,43 ,Webby Diara 22 and another 22-year-old man only identified as Mukuya.
“The driver of the truck escaped unhurt whilst the eight injured are admitted at Solwezi General Hospital where the bodies of the deceased are also lying,” he said.
