By Bright Chikele:
THERE is only PF on one side and the opposition on the other side, but FDD leader Edith Nawakwi
doesn’t seem to be with us, says Major Richard Kachingwe.
In an interview yesterday, Maj Kachingwe said it was shocking that every time Nawakwi wanted to condemn the bad governance in the country, she always apportioned part of the blame on the UPND.
He said it was important for Nawakwi to come out in the open and tell the Zambian people which side she was on so that the opposition could respond to her attacks adequately.
“FDD must come clean. They should tell the Zambians who they are really supporting. Do they want to get rid of a government that has impoverished Zambians or they want the status quo to continue?” Maj Kachingwe asked.
“The leader of FDD, madam Nawakwi has been on the ground and she knows the sufferings of the people under this government. She needs to make a decision; is she supporting President Edgar Lungu or what? Does she want Zambians to get rid of this government that has ravaged the economy, destroyed democracy, human rights… and everything that she fought for when she was in government or not?”
He said it was clear that Nawakwi was not decided on who she was supporting between the ruling Patriotic Front and her fellow opposition political parties.
“We don’t know where she stands at the moment. We have no problem with her campaigning for the FDD and explaining to people why they should vote for her, but she is condemning both the PF and the UPND on various issues yet she knows that UPND has never formed government before. This is the first time the party is forming government next month. And Nawakwi knows that on her own, she won’t make it. Of course she will get some votes but she cannot make it on her own,” Maj Kachingwe said.
“However, regardless of her decision, we cannot continue seeing our sister play this role of a spoiler. She needs to start thinking realistically about these elections.”
He credited Nawakwi as being an intelligent woman who had contributed greatly to Zambia and knew the challenges facing the nation.
And Maj Kachingwe said the UPND was not worried about the second round of the elections because Hakainde Hichilema was going to win in the first round.
He said it was clear that Zambians were ready to change government because they were tired of President Lungu’s government.
“I know what I am talking about. I am on the ground and I have seen for myself what Zambians want. They can’t wait to remove the PF out of power. UPND and HH are winning next month’s elections so those cheating themselves that the PF is winning will be shocked,” said Maj Kachingwe.
