A man whose particulars are not known has died on the night of 25 July 2016 after taking excessive beer on an empty stomach.
Confirming the development to News Watch Reviews, Mzuzu Police deputy Publist Cecilia Mfune said some well wishers reported to Mzuzu Police Station that a man collapsed near Little Havana Bar after taking too much beer without food.
“Mzuzu Police rushed to the scene and the man was taken to Mzuzu Central Hospital,unfortunately he was pronounced dead upon arrival”, said Cecilia.
The medical report conducted at Mzuzu Central Hospital indicated that his death was due to dehydration as a result of excessive beer drinking on an empty stomach. His remains are being kept at Mzuzu Central Hospital Mortuary waiting for relatives to identify it.
In a related development, Mzuzu Police said on July 21, 2016, another man died under similar circumstances in Ekwendeni after taking alcohol on empty stomach.
The deceased was identifed as Kondwani Mkwate Phiri, 37, from Jonas village in the area of Traditional Authority Sapanga in Salima district.
Meanwhile, Malawi Police is advising the general public to go to Mzuzu Central Hospital mortuary and identity the dead body. They further urged all the citizens of the country to refrain from taking beer on an empty stomach.
