Mzuzu Police are keeping in custody three men for the charge of theft by servant contrary to section 286 of the penal code.
According to the police officers who were patrolling within Mzuzu City on September 28, 2016 at around 2100 hours, received information that a min bus registration number NB89 heading towards Mchengautuwa was carrying bags of cement suspected to have been stolen.
“The officers did not hesitate but conducted an ambush and stopped the vehicle which was carrying 20 bags of cement, when he was asked to produce a cash sale he confessed to have bought cement from SR Nicolas Construction Company employees in area 4, said Mzuzu Police deputy publist Cecilia Mfune.
She added, “suspects were arrested on the same day and they accepted to have stolen the bags of cement and sold them at a price of K79,000.00”.
Meanwhile, the confiscated 20 bags of cement and the vehicle have been kept at Mzuzu Police Station to be used as exhibit and the suspects are in custody awaiting for trial.
Mzuzu Police identified the three suspects as Mcferson Beza 35 years from Anock Beza Village under Traditional Authority Kampingo sibande in Mzimba District, Kondwani Mtambo 28 years from Msambo Village, Traditional Authourity Chimutu in Lilongwe District and Mike Msekeni 30 years of Kapeta Village in the area if Traditional Authority Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota District.
