Police in Kasungu have arrested three people identified as Noel Matimati, 25, Andrew Moshe, 29 and Harry Kadzandira, 25 after they were found in possession of Indian Hemp without a licence.
Confirming the development to News Watch Reviews, Kasungu Police deputy spokesman Harry Namwaza said on November 23, 2016 police got a tip off that there was a Minbus travelling from Shaona heading towards Chasato which they suspected to have carried the stuff in mention.
“At around 0100 hours, police mounted a snap roadblock along Chansato-Shayona road where they managed to intercept the Mini bus Nissan Vanette registration number BU 3907 white in colour. After searching the vehicle, they found 16, 50 kgs bags of loose Cannabis Sativa”, he said.
The three were arrested on the spot and they will answer the charges of Being Found in Possession of Indian Hemp without a licence.
The bags of Indian Hemp confiscated will be taken to Chitedze Research Station for analysis. The three will appear before court soon when police enquiries are completed
The suspects, Noel Matimati hails from Lolo village under Traditional Authority Changantha in Thyolo district, Andrew Moshe comes from Chamthunya village in the area of Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka district while Harry Kadzandira comes from Misi village under Traditional Authority Msakambewa in Dowa district.
