A tax driver in Kasungu helped the Police by locking a suspected thief in his car and later reported the matter to the Police who arrested the suspect.
Kasungu deputy spokesman Harry Namwaza said the unusual development took place during the night of October 31, 2016.
“The suspect identified as Mabvuto Zimba, 19, approached the driver in question to carry him to Gundani location. After closely looking at him, the driver got suspicious. With a quick decision racing through his mind, the driver agreed and sped off. As he reached police junction, he drove straight to Kasungu Police Station”, he said.
He added, “the driver locked the doors of his car and came out to inform the officers on duty about the suspect. After enquiries, it was found out that Zimba had broken into a shop belonging to Dominic Moyo, 29 who runs a cosmetic shop within Kasungu market”, he affirmed.
Malawi Police has so far recovered some items which the owner has already identified.
Mabvuto Zimba who hails from Yabwalo village in the area of Traditional Authority Kaomba in Kasungu district has been charged with Burglary and Theft contrary to Section 309 and 278 respectively of the Penal Code.
He will appear before court soon to answer the charges leveled against him.
