Those students who were involved in any form of police brutality during the recent CHANCO protests are informed to report to their executive members so that action against the involved police officers should be taken immediately, and students must be compensated, that’s according to the letter released by SUCC dated July 25, 2016.
(Read the full letter below).
TO: ALL CHANCO
FROM: THE OFFICE OF
DATE: 25th JULY, 2016
SUB: COMPILATION OF NAMES OF STUDENTS TORTURED BY POLICE
Dear people of goodwill,
Chancellor College Students Union (SUCC) has received an urgent call from the Malawi Law Society (MLS) to compile and submit names of all students who suffered any form of act of police brutality during the recent events on campus. The names are required for purposes of bringing legal proceedings against Police with a view to obtaining compensation for the individual students victimized.
The call comes at a time when SUCC has just resolved to do exactly the same thing, and so we treat it as an opportunity to grab.
We, therefore, request and invite all students who were victimized and are ready to testify if called to, to submit their names, registration numbers, and contact details (including phone numbers and email addresses) and other personal details such as home address, to any of the following SUCC Executive members:
Silvester Ayuba James (President: 0999708080)
Edward Chilenje (General Secretary: 0997218215)
Vitumbiko Thindwa (Speaker: 0996620115)
Watson Mbughi (Deputy Speaker: 0881400161)
The arrangement is a matter of urgency. We, thus, advise all our beloved members to treat it as such by having all the necessarily information submitted by end of business today for logistical timelines.
If we know any friends who were victimized in any way during the said time but we are not sure whether they will received this communication, may we please inform them by any most effective means in the circumstances, or alert any SUCC Executive member above, or even any SUCC member in general.
SUCC continues to appreciate your unwavering support and enduring solidarity. We promise to always lead you from the front in times of trouble and need.
Always remember that ‘History Will Never Forgive Us If We Don’t Win Our Battles Today’. Fees Must Fall!
Yours in service,
Silvester Ayuba James
