A man accused of killing his six-month-old son is expected to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday as the case continues.
Marthinus Pelser was caught by police in Strubens Valley last Wednesday after his car ran out of petrol, Lieutenant Kay Makhubela said. The suspect allegedly went on the run in his wife’s car.
The child was in the care of the 22-year-old, while his wife went to work on Saturday. The mother returned home that evening to find the child wrapped in a blanket and not breathing.
The child suffered head injuries and burn wounds.
Pelser appeared in court on Friday, barefoot and in shorts.
