Few days after police in Kasungu arrested Thomas Manda, 38, Anold Magoya, 23, Zebediyo Chiphere, 48 and Misheck Kachigunda, 48 who were found in possession of medical drugs without a licence, the law enforcers have moved swiftly to arrest Aubrey Phiri, 32, a Health Surveillance Assistant at Chamama Health Centre after the four suspects implicated him in the case.
Edna Mzingwitsa, Kasungu Publist said the suspect is alledged to be the mastermind behind the drugs which were sold to the four people who were arrested by the Police few days ago.
“It is alleged that, Phiri is the one who was acquiring the medical drugs for the four suspects which he was stealing from the health centre. In the course of enquiring into the case, it was found out that, it is Phiri who was stealing and selling medical drugs to the suspects. The medical drugs in question were meant to be used in government hospitals. meanwhile, police are yet to establish if the theft of drugs in question was a syndicate in order to arrest others who may be connected to the matter in question”, said Mzingwitsa.
The medical drugs which the police seized from the suspects included Chloramphenicol tables. Diclofenac, Brufen, Paracetamol, Indocid, Fragile. Contrim, Quinine, Iodine, Blood testing tube transfer devices, just to mention a few.
The suspect will appear before court soon when investigations are completed. Phiri has since been charged with an offence of Theft by Servant.
Aubrey Phiri hails from Visambo village under Traditional Authority (TA) Kalumo in Ntchisi district.
