Small victories like these, yet so significant to Syria’s Manbij residents in the highly contested northern Syrian city of Manbij , who have been celebrating  for their new found freedoms after being liberated from the rule of so-called Islamic State by the US-backed Kurds and Arab fighters Army.

Two years under the stranglehold of IS could seem like ages to many of these local Syrian so they had all the good reasons to pour into the streets to celebrate and enjoy basic rights they had been denied for two years, including shaving off their beards and smoking.

US-backed Kurdish and Arab fighters fought 73 days to drive IS out of Manbij, close to the Turkish border.

About 2,000 civilians being used as human shields were also freed.
