A 36 year old man, identified as Kasiteni Mwale of Shimwaza village under Traditional Authority Chilowamatambe in Kasungu district is on the run after allegedly murdering his wife, Chimwemwe Kachedwa, 28.
Kasungu Police through their public relations officer Harry Namwaza said the deceased was murdered during the night of 20-21 August, 2016 and police have launched an intensive manhunt to track down the culprit.
According to the details made available to News Watch Reviews by Kasungu Police regarding the surroundings of the death of Chimwemwe, they demonstrate that Mwale and the deceased were staying separately for two months.
It is alleged that the two separated after the deceased rejected Mwale’s demand that they should offer their four children for rituals to get rich.
“On the material day, the deceased was murdered, Kasiteni Mwale visited the deceased under the pretext that they should reconcile. After having a lengthy conversation, the deceased started escorting the suspect who on the way hacked her with an axe in the head. The incident was witnessed by the deceased’ grandmother who was following them at a distance after becoming suspicious with the suspect”, said Namwaza.
“After realising that he had been seen by the deceased’s grandmother, Mwale also hacked Chimwemwe’s grandmother who is now admitted at Ntchisi District Hospital”, concluded Harry.
Postmortem conducted at Kasungu District Hospital showed that death was due to head injury secondary to Cerebral Haemorrage.
The deceased hailed from Chigambatula village under Traditional Authority Chilowamatambe in Kasungu district.
