A 48yr old man, Standwell Nyirenda has died in Nkhata Bay after taking local brewed spirit beer populary known as Kachasu without eating food.
According to the deceased’s wife Mrs Dyless Nyirenda, (she) told the police that the deceased left home on August 11, 2016 for a wedding ceremony at Chapukwa village where he extended his journey to a beer drinking joint.
“He did not report back home and this did not amaze his wife since it was the deceased’s behaviour of sleeping outside after cinsuming beer”, said Nkhata Bay police publist Ignatius Esau.
This unfortunate incident happened on August 13, 2016 when the deceased was found lying unconscious along the lake shore road at Vizara Rubber Plantations. He was rushed to Nkhata Bay District Hospital where he died whilst recieving treatment.
Postmortem that was conducted by the medical personnel revealed that death was due to hypoglycaemia.
The deceased hailed from Chapukwa village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Mankhambira in Nkhata Bay district.
In an effort to avoid this kind of deaths, police in the district are appealing to people to desist from taking spirit beers on an empty stomach.
