A 31 year old man identified as Andrew Chinula Kumwenda of Galangonda village, in the area of Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe in Rumphi district has died after hanging himself to a tree due to family disputes.
According to Mzuzu police, the incident occurred on May 31, 2016 at Mng’onamo area situated between Ekwendeni and Ezondweni, the northern part of Mzuzu city.
“The two got married in 2015, due to some family disputes wife moved out of the house and went to stay with her relatives. On May 27, 2016, the husband went to his wife’s where a round table discussions were held before advocates from both sides”, said Mzuzu police spokesperson, Martin Bwanali.
Bwanali further said the discussions proved futile as there was no reconciliation between the two.
On 31st May 2016 morning hours the husband was found hanging on a tree.
Postmortem conducted at Ekwendeni Mission Hospital indicated death was due to strangulation.
Meanwhile, Police are urging all family members to share their issues with their good friends to get positive advice. Sharing of family problems helps to avoid stress which if poorly managed lead people to commit suicide.
A lot of institutions are available that provide marriage counselling. Churches are one such good institutions and people should utilise them.
