Malawi Police in Kasungu district are keeping in custody a 27 year old man identified as Daniel Kakhwesi for Theft by Trick which occurred between the months of November and December, 2015.
According to the police report made available to this publication, News Watch Reviews, by Kasungu Deputy Spokesperson, Constable Harry Namwaza, it states that during this period the suspect came to the complainant’s shop identified as Marrium Mataula, 43 years, where he introduced himself as a Clinical Officer at Kasungu District Hospital. In the course of their conversation, the complainant told the suspect that her son has an MSCE but he is yet to find a job.
“When the suspect heard this he told the complainant that he could help her son find a place at Malawi College of Health Sciences as he has a relative working there. Every time the suspect visited the shop he could demand some money towards the deal until the day he took the complainant’s son to Blantyre where it was alleged that they would meet the person to facilitate the deal. Before leaving, the suspect demanded some cash to carter for food and the laptop for the son to be using in his studies”, said Harry.
He further said while in Blantyre, the suspect took the complainant’s son to a certain man who just asked him few questions and told him that he had been granted a place at Malawi College of Health Sciences and that soon he would be informed to start his studies. Upon returning from Blantyre, the suspect disappeared with the laptop until on 23-06-16 when he got arrested by police after the complainant lodged a complaint at Kasungu Police.
The suspect robbed the woman money amounting to MK248,000.
The suspect has been charged with Theft by Trick which is Contrary to Section 321 of the Penal Code and he will appear before court soon when enquires are completed.
