The Tanzanian Immigration Services Department has arrested 594 illegal foreigners of which one is a Malawian lady who was working in public service without legitimate supporting documents.
Addressing the media in Dar es Salaam on Friday, Dar es Salaam zone Immigration Chief, John Msumule said the arrested Malawian identified as Dr Esther Mwenitumba was employed by the government as a Chief Medical Officer at Mburahati Health Centre who submitted false documents at the department.
According to John Msumule, the arrests of illegal foreigners were made after an extraordinary investigation that was done in the previous eight months.
The migration Chief told the news conference on Friday that the suspects would be summoned quickly after finishing their investigations.
As per the Non-Citizens (Regulations) Act, upon conviction, any individual who negates the law confers an offense and he or she is at risk to a fine of at the very least Tsh10m or face imprisonment for a term of at least two years or both.
Meanwhile , Mr Msumule cautioned landlords who were not getting details of interest of their occupants, demanding that it was appropriate if the records of the considerable number of inhabitants were legitimate and if there is any suspicion, they should report to the closest migration office.
