Kasungu First Grade Magistrate Court has sentenced Daniel Kakhwesi, 27 of Kamkowa village under Traditional Authourity Chulu in Kasungu district to serve a 2 year jail term after finding him guilty of the offence of Cheating.
The court heard that, between the months of November-December, 2015 Kakhwesi cheated Ms Marrium Mataula, 43 years that he would help her son find a place at Malawi College of Health Sciences and in the course collected money about K248,000.00 which upon receiving it he disappeared. Kakhwesi was arrested on June 23, 2016 after the complainant lodged a complaint at Kasungu Police Station.
In court, Kakhwesi pleaded guilty and requested for a lenient sentence because it was the first time for him to commit this offence. However, the State through Prosecutor Sergeant Morton Munthali of Kasungu Police Station requested the court to give Kakhwesi a custodial sentence in order to give a lesson to some people who may have evil mind like that of Kakhwesi.
Before passing sentence, Kasungu First Grade Magistrate, His Worship Damiano Banda accepted Morton Munthali’s call and slapped Kakhwesi with a 2 year jail term.
