Malawian Man Arrested For Bribing A Police Investigator

The Malawi Police in the northern city of Mzuzu are keeping in a cooler a 32 years old man for offering K8000 bribe to a police officer to release his relative who is a suspect of Burglary and Theft.

According to the police report available to News Watch Reviews, it says on May 26, 2016, unknown criminals broke into a certain woman’s house and various valuable items were stolen.

The woman reported the matter to Chiputula police, who upon hearing this, they launched their investigations to apprehend the suspects.

On June 1st, 2016 one suspect identified as Wanangwa Ngwira, 25, of Chamama village, in the area of Traditional Authority (TA)  Chikulamayembe in Rumphi district was arrested.

“As the Police investigator was busy finalising the file ready for court, he was then approached by the suspect’s relative, Temwa Hara who offered K8000 to the Police investigator and asked for the release  of the burglary and theft suspect”, said Mzuzu Police Spokesperson Martin Bwanali..

But the police arrested him on the spot and seized the money he was offering him.

The suspect, who hails from Chimodzimodzi village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Mtwalo, in Mzimba district, will appear in court to answer the charge of Official Corruption which is contrary to Section 90 (b) of the penal code. The K8000 money will be used as evidence in the court of law.
