Police in the northern region of Malawi, Mzuzu, are keeping in the cooler a 29 year old man identified as Ken Nkhoma of Zayo village in the area of Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba district for causing death by reckless driving.
According to Mzuzu police report made available to News Watch Reviews by the Mzuzu Police deputy relations officer, Cecilia Mfune, demonstrates that the incident occured on August 7, 2016 at around 1900 hours.
“On the material day and time, the suspect was driving a Toyota Hiace minibus with registration number MZ 3393 from Mzuzu city heading Luwinga direction. Upon reaching Chinese junction, he hit a pedestrian who was crossing the road from right to left”, said Cecilia.
“The man’s full particulars are not identified but he is suspected to be in his forties was taken to Mzuzu Central Hospital where he died hours later due to head injuries”, she affirmed.
The suspect will appear in court soon to answer the charge of causing death by reckless driving contrary to section 126 of Road Traffic Act.
Police are advising drivers to observe traffic rules which require that speed in cities should not exceed 50km per hour.
