A Chipoka police officer, Constable Folley Ganizani Masiye, 30, of Kapolo village in the area of Traditional Authority Mlumbe in Zomba district and unknown pedal cyclist have both suddenly died in a hit and run road accident.
Salima Police publist Gift Chitowe told News Watch Reviews that the officer was killed on his way home after knocking off from his duties.
“On September 20, 2016, Constable Ganizani Masiye reported for Chipoka road block duties at 1400 hours and was supposed to knock off at 2200 hours. After knocking off, he was carried on a taxi bicycle which was being cycled by this unidentified bicycle operator”, said Chitowe.
He further said, “upon arrival at Mikuyu Village near Teen Mission junction along Salima-Balaka road they were both hit by unidentified motor vehicle which was also going the same direction and the vehicle did not stop. Both victims died on the spot of head injuries and their bodies are lying at Salima District Hospital mortuary”, concluded Chitowe.
Meanwhile, Police are calling upon members of the general public to come forward if one of their relatives who was operating a bicycle hire business is missing to report to the Police or Salima District Hospital mortuary for identification.
