The department of animal health and livestock
development in Mzimba south has uplifted the ban of

pig  slaughtering and movement of live pigs following
no new cases of African swine fever in the district.
According to the district animal health and livestock
development officer for Mzimba south Philemon C
Mtete, since the outbreak of swine disease in March
they have been monitoring the situation,
“For over 45 days now our team was on the ground
monitoring any development, and since then no new
cases have been recorded which has made us issue this
statement of suspending the ban.”
The issue to ban pork in Mzimba came out on 28 of
March this year, a thing that frustrated the pork business
community.
Meanwhile pork business men in the  community have expressed
excitement over the removal of the ban saying they will
now be able to find their basic needs as it is their source
of income.
“we use to support our families through slaughtering and selling of pork so the ban made life difficult, but  now we can smile,” said Alfred katete one of the pork business men at Mzimba boma.
