Kizza Besigye: A Ugandan political hero or villain?

  • Kizza Besigye is still fighting Ugandan elected
    Yoweri Museveni despite him still going through
    tribulations.
    Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni who was sworn in as a
    fifth term  president, extending his 30 years in office.
    According to BBC, the 71-year old won 6o.75% of the vote
    while his nearest rival Kizza Besigye took 35% of the
    electoral vote.
    Mr. Besigye, who is under house arrest, keep saying that the
    results were a “fraud”, therefore he is the one who should
    be president.
    The fighting opposition leader may face a stiffer
    punishment, if the court of Uganda finds him guilty of
    defying the constitution.
    However Besigye’s calls for the international community to
    reject Museveni fifth term has fallen on death ears as the
    world looks at him with their backs turn.
  • EU observers also criticized the poll, saying the governing
    party had created an “intimidating atmosphere.”
    Despite such remarks Museveni remains the leader of
    Uganda with his recent inauguration flanked by colonel
    Robert Mugabe of Zimbambwe,Besigye’s fight is yet to be
    seen bearing frutits,but as it seems he or neither his
    supporters are calling it quits.
    The recent election was spoiled by irregular violence and
    opposition allegations of electoral fraud, with social media
    sites and messaging apps blocked.
    Ugandans should expect more police in the streets and at
    the moment Besigye control seems to be in the hands of the
    contradictory leader Yoweri Museveni and his government.
