“I believe that this stigma can come to an end if we educate and empower young people. If all the children around the world were given tools to protect their health, to speak out against stigma and discrimination, we would have been speaking another language today”, he said.
Speaking in Durban during the 2016 International Aids Conference, he said young people should not be left out of the response to end HIV/AIDS.
“Leaving behind young people in programmes like these should immediately stop. Young people are being affected because they are not included in our programmes”, said Elton.
He said if all the governments wants to end this stigma they should listen to the voices of young people and ask them what they want, and services they need.
