EIGHT Malawians have been arrested in Zambia on different offences committed in the country ranging from illegal stay to illegal entry.
These Malawians are part of the 36 illegal immigrants who have been arrested by the Zambian government during an operation conducted by the immigration officers in the country.
The Zambian Immigration Relations Officer Mubanda Chileshe said this was part of the agenda to force the law to take its course.
“We want all the foreigners staying in this country to abide by the law, they should have proper supporting documents”, she said.
One Malawian was arrested in Lundazi and he was indicted and sentenced to pay a fine of K2,500 or in default 30 days basic detainment for unlawful entry into the country.
Another Malawian national was arrested in Kafue and he was also indicted and sentenced to pay a fine of K1,000 or in default 6 months imprisonment for staying illegally in the country. The remaining six have also been charged with different offences.
Other foreign nationals arrested are from Ethiopia, Somalia, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Congo, Kenya, Burundi and Nigeria.
