SENIOR Chief Mulundu of Ushi-speaking people in Mwense district has appealed to the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) not to relent on its decision to compel The Post Newspaper to settle it tax because that was a statutory obligation.
And the Traditional leader has charged that it was unfair to blame President Edgar Lungu over the closure of The Post Newspaper because ZRA was merely carrying out its mandate.
Speaking when President Lungu paid a courtesy call on Mambilima traditional rulers, Chief Mulundu said it was a statutory obligation to pay tax.
The Head of State later held a closed door meeting with Chief Kashiba, Chief Lubinda and Chief Lukwesa led by Senior Chief Mulundu at Mulundu primary school.
He said the people were suffering because of such companies which owed Government huge sums of money in tax obligations.
The traditional leader said the chiefs and their subjects were proud of Government’s efforts in driving economic developments which were visible throughout the country over the past five years. He attributed the economic developments to the pro-poor policies which the PF had undertaken such as the social cash transfer and the women and marketeers empowerment projects.
