A 22yr old man identified as Phillip Kasambala hanged himself in Nkhata Bay after his father threatened to report him to the police for trying to poison him.
According to Mr Thoko Chisale who is the deceased’s brother, the father to the deceased sold part of his land and shared part of the proceeds with the deceased.
“The son later squandered all the money on beer and this did not please his father. He confronted his son on this and later the son became furious. He thought of ending his father’s life by poisoning his beer but fortunate enough, some well wishers informed the father in time”, said Nkhata Bay Police Publist Ignatius Esau.
Esau further said in response to the actions of his son, the father threatened to report the deceased to police and after hearing this, on the morning of August 25, 2016, the deceased left home to unknown destination. He didn’t report back home only to be found hanging dead on the same day at around 1600hrs inside Mathamanda forest.
Matter was reported to police and in conjunction with medical personnel visited the scene of incident and strangulation was detected to be the cause of the death.
Meanwhile, police in the district who have played down any foul play on the above incident are calling upon people in the district to follow right procedures whenever they have differences of any kind.
It has been observed that had it been that proper procedures were followed on the issue at hand, the precious life of this young man who hailed from Timbiri village in the area of Traditonal Authority Timbiri in Nkhata Bay district wouldn’t have been lost.
