The Malawi Police in Nkhotakota are keeping in custody a 43 year-old man identified as Katemba Banda for defiling a 11 year-old school pupil twice.
According to the Nkhotakota Police, they said the victim was selling fried groundnuts at Nkhotakota Trading Centre and the suspect took groundnuts wealthy MK500.00 from the victim.
When time came for the suspect to pay the money, he requested the victim to accompany him to his house to get her money. She was taken by the suspect on his bicycle, but instead of going to his house, he went and crossed Kaombe bridge and branched to the right side which is along Kaombe river.
He cycled up to a dark place under a mango tree where he defiled her. After defiling her, he took the victim into a cassava garden where he defiled her for the second time.
Then the victim escaped from the hands of the suspect as he was trying to have carnal knowledge with the victim for the third time. Lucky enough two men who were passing by the nearby path rescued her. They interviewed the victim who narrated to them what had transpired.
The two followed the suspect and found him at the scene, they managed to apprehend him.
The two reported the matter to the Police and the suspect was arrested and remanded at the Police Station awaiting trial. The victim was sent to Nkhotakota District Hospital where examination which was conducted revealed that she was indeed defiled.
The suspect hails from Javo village in the area of Traditional Authority Chanzi in the district.
