A 40 year old woman identified by the police as Helen Phiri from Kanthete Village, in the area of Traditional Authority Kabunduli in Nkhata Bay district died on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 in a road accident in the northern city of Malawi, Mzuzu
Mzuzu Police deputy relations officer Cecila Mfune told this publication at about 6:00 hours, unknown driver was driving Toyota Passo registration number BU 8255 from Mzuzu City towards Mchengautuwa direction with two passengers on board.
“Upon reaching Reserve Bank, he collided with a pedal cyclist who carried a female pillion passenger Helen Phiri. Due to the impact the woman sustained head injuries and internal bleeding. She was taken to Mzuzu Central Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival”, said Cecilia.
She added that the cyclist sustained head injuries and had a fracture on his right leg and he is currently admitted at the said hospital.
The unknown driver who has escaped and the said passengers escaped with no injuries.
Meanwhile police officers have launched a manhunt for the driver whose vehicle has been impounded at Mzuzu Police Station.
